According to Peter Doig, this color aquatint with etching print came about while working with Fritze Margull in Doig’s studio in Port of Spain. Etching #1 Pelican, was based on an Indian postcard Doig picked up in a London what-not shop. The figure dragging the dead pelican was actually dragging a net. The artist changed the image to represent death and dinner. This color aquatint with etching is signed and dated by the artist and was published by Griffelkunst, Hamburg. The edition size is 119 , the exclusive members’ editions produced by this distinguished art organization are traditionally unnumbered.
